It's a popular question, "Why doesn't MYOB connect to ________ when other cloud accounting software does?" or "{name of accounting tool} has integrated to ______ why doesn't MYOB?"
It's actually one of the biggest myths in the market, that any accounting software vendor builds any integrations within the ecosystem. Accounting vendors publish public APIs (application programming interfaces) that allow any other software provider (a 3rd Party) to integrate and read or write data to their platforms. Once an integration is completed and verified (reviewed, approved, certified) it is then listed on that vendor's website. This does NOT mean the vendor wrote that connection.
Almost all of the 3rd party solutions (app or add-on) you see on an accounting vendors App Marketplace or Add-on Gallery is an integration undertaken by that 3rd party. Each of these solutions evaluates the market and makes their own decisions about integration to any given accounting vendor.
What can I do when my favourite app doesn't connect to MYOB?
Great question and the easiest answer is - "Talk to them". Any great software development team loves to hear from their customers. They want to know what is important to you and how you leverage or use their solution in your business. Your voice to them saying "Hey, we love what you do, it'd be really awesome if this and this and this could be shared with my MYOB data".
You can direct them to this post or to http://developers.myob.com where they can learn all about our APIs and how to integrate with our software. It's not that hard and most integrations can be completed by development teams in a couple of weeks (depending of course on the complexity of their integration needs and their development, test and release cycles).
But _____ has so many MORE apps than you?
This is a very interesting comment and one we get quite a lot. MYOB focuses purely on the Australian and New Zealand markets. Our Add-ons partners are focused on this market and we know that when an add-on joins our ecosystem they are as passionate about local businesses as we are. We have a massive and growing range of amazing ecosystem tools for the local market, tools that will help your business succeed here in Australia and New Zealand.
