From time to time we do get emails and calls from business owners or advisors (a bookkeeper, consultant or accountant) who have been asked by an external developer (or software solution company) to get their MYOB API Key so they can integrate for them.
This isn't how things work in the world of cloud accounting integration. Customers (that is someone who is a business owner using MYOB AccountRight or MYOB Essentials in their business) should never be applying for API Keys.
Developers who want to build an integration to MYOB software, need to register with MYOB. Once registered they can apply for keys to connect their software with our API. Once that is done, they can create an authorisation link between their software and your MYOB software, this allows data to be shared between the two, safely.
If your developer is asking you for an API Key, direct them to http://developer.myob.com and encourage them to register with us. Our team will gladly help them get up and running.
But what if my company is the development company?
If you have your own on staff development team, maybe a team (or person) who does integration work between your internal systems, then YES, you can have them added to your account and we can enable the developer tab in your my.myob.com.au for them. This allows you to create API Keys for your own internal integration.
